Starr Web Development utilizes a multitude of modern technologies to achieve creative, functional, and effective design for our projects. We follow the guidance of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to create interoperable and functional websites. The foundation of our work is based on the current model of HTML and XHTML; we also incorporate Flash into our projects thanks to its robust features and dynamic capabilities.
Working collectively with the foundation of web development are special programming languages that enable us to create rich, dynamic content for your project. The backbone to our dynamic creativity derives from JavaScript, DHTML, CSS, PHP, CGI, and ActionScript. We often integrate MySQL databases, Java applets, XML, and AJAX into our work to help achieve ultimate functionality and to meet specific user requirements. We also have experience with MLS and IDX integration though commercial products that allow customers in real estate to search and view listing data.
The World Wide Web and its associated technologies are changing everyday, which requires us to maintain proficiency through education and experience. We are never finished learning and are committed to gaining as much knowledge as possible in web development, after all, knowledge is power and the skies are the limit.
| W3C |
| The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools) to lead the Web to its full potential. W3C is a forum for information, commerce, communication, and collective understanding. |
| HTML |
| We author our web pages with the most current HTML model 4.01. Hypertext Markup Language is the authoring software language used on the Internet's World Wide Web. HTML is used for creating World Wide Web pages. |
| XHTML |
| eXtensible Hypertext Markup Language. An extension of HTML as an application of the XML language, which is the future of web authoring due to its widely accepted specifications. |
| Flash |
| A popular authoring software developed by Macromedia, is used to create vector graphics-based animation programs with full-screen navigation interfaces, graphic illustrations, and simple interactivity in an anti-aliased, resizable file format that is small enough to stream across a normal modem connection. |
| JavaScript |
| JavaScript is a script language - a system of programming codes, created by Netscape, that can be embedded into the HTML of a web page to add functionality, it has little to do with Java itself. Can be used inside of the HTML document or externally. |
| DHTML |
| Dynamic HTML. An extension of HTML that enables, among other things, the inclusion of small animations and dynamic menus in Web pages. DHTML code makes use of style sheets and JavaScript. |
| CSS |
| Cascading Style Sheets. Language used to describe how an HTML document should be formatted, including text, colors, images, links and general page formatting. Can be used inside of the HTML document or externally. |
| PHP |
| The PHP Hypertext Preprocessor is a programming language that allows web developers to create dynamic content that interacts with databases. PHP is basically used for developing web based software applications. It is a very secure, server-side technology that enables us to create custom forms and user interfaces for your project. |
| CGI |
| Common Gateway Interface. A programming interface between a web server and the systems backend functions - such as processing systems and databases. Allows web servers to perform data functions and interact with users, very similar to PHP. |
| ActionScript |
| The scripting language used in Macromedia Flash. It is similar in syntax to JavaScript. This language allows us to create dynamic flash animation within Macromedia Flash documents. |
| Java Applets |
| A Java Applet is a program not intended to run on its own, but rather is supposed to live at some location in a Web page, similar to the way a graphic image might, it is derived from Java unlike JavaScript. Java applets are also a nice way to create forms and user interfaces on a web page. |
| MySQL |
| MySQL (pronounced "my ess cue el") is an open source relational database management system (RDBMS) that uses Structured Query Language (SQL), the most popular language for adding, accessing, and processing data in a database. Most web hosts offer MySQL as their database solution in their servers, which allows you to have a database for your website. |
| XML |
| XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a W3C initiative that allows information and services to be encoded with meaningful structure and semantics that computers and humans can understand. XML is great for information exchange, and can easily be extended to include user-specified and industry-specified tags. |
| AJAX |
| Asynchronous JavaScript and XML is a method of building interactive applications for the Web and involves JavaScript, XML, HTML, XHTML and CSS to name a few. Unlike HTTP, AJAX processes user request immediately. This is fast becoming the web language for the future of development. |
| MLS |
| Multiple Listing Service (MLS) (also Multiple Listing System) is a real estate listing service that combines the listings for all available properties in an area, except For-Sale-By-Owner (FSBO) properties, in one directory or database. The information is available online at various MLS websites and can be incorporate directly into your website through IDX. |
| IDX |
| IDX (Internet Data Exchange) is a MLS rules change enabling MLS Participants (Principal Brokers) to give each other permission to display each others’ listings on their web sites. This means you have the ability to show all MLS data and even customize the contact info for your firm specifically. |
